Welcome to Elite Golf NSW – Barnwell Park!

We’re excited to officially begin the next chapter for the Barnwell Park Pro Shop and introduce Elite Golf NSW to the Barnwell Park golfing community.

Our focus is on providing a professional, friendly and welcoming Pro Shop experience for everyone who plays at Barnwell Park.

From the Pro Shop, our team can help with social golf bookings, cart hire, PGA coaching, junior and ladies clinics, club fitting and repairs, plus a great range of golf equipment, apparel and accessories.

Whether you’re a member at Barnwell Park, visiting for a social round, looking to improve your game or simply need some new gear, come in and see the team — Luke, Will, Phil, Lucinda & James.

There will still be some familiar faces behind the counter, with Phil and Lucinda continuing on from the previous management team, and we’re delighted to have them as part of the Elite Golf NSW team.

We’re looking forward to meeting everyone, building on what already makes Barnwell Park such a great place to play golf, and bringing plenty of new ideas to the Pro Shop, coaching and golf experience.

We can’t wait to start this next chapter at Barnwell Park Proshop with you!

About Us

Golf coaching and pro-shop services at Barnwell Park, on the shores of Canada Bay.

Elite Golf runs out of the pro-shop at Barnwell Park Golf Course in Five Dock, offering lessons, equipment and advice for golfers of every age and ability.

The story of the course

Barnwell Park was built as a public course by the local Council, on reclaimed land beside Canada Bay. It has been a place for the community to play golf since the mid-1960s.

  1. 1930s–40s

    From swamp to park

The land was once swamp and mangrove, gradually filled by the Council and used as a tip. In 1942 the nearby reserves were renamed Barnwell Park, recognising the late father of Alderman W.T. Barnwell, whose donation of land was made for the enjoyment of local residents. For years the ground hosted baseball, cricket and soccer.

  2. 1952–63

    A golf course takes shape

The Council first considered the site for golf in 1952. In 1962 the Drummoyne Social Golf Club approached the Council to build a course, and work began in 1963. One early idea for the park was a drive-in theatre.

  3. 1964

The first nine holes and the pro-shop

Drummoyne Council completed the first nine holes in November 1964, together with a small brick pro-shop. Of eighteen applicants for the professional’s job, 22-year-old Erik Royds was successful and received the keys to his brand new shop in December.

  4. 1965

    Opening day

The course officially opened on 13 March 1965. About 100 people played that day, and the first group off the tee was 70 players from the Western Suburbs Sports and Community Club, now the Canada Bay Club. Green fees back then were 4 shillings for nine holes on a weekday, 7 shillings for eighteen, and just 2 shillings for schoolchildren.

  5. 1974

    Eighteen holes

The second nine holes were completed in 1974, again largely on reclaimed land, giving Barnwell Park the full eighteen it has today. Lyons Road was built alongside the new holes at the same time.
